Cooler pads are designed in various ways, depending on passive and active cooling techniques. Before deciding how to choose a laptop cooling pad - 5 buying tips can help to make the process simpler. The buying tips to consider are:
Laptop or Notebook Ventilation:
This is an important part of the information that is needed when choosing the right cooler pad for laptops. It is important to know where the vents are positioned and the ventilation method in the computer. When choosing a cooler pad, it is essential to bear in mind that it should work with the laptop but not against it. A good example is a cooler stand that has a fan that is directly under or adequately close to the laptop’s hotspots.
Laptop "Hot Spots"
When working on a laptop, there are some parts that become hotter than other parts. This is mostly at the base. These are the parts that are referred to as “Hot Spots" and are the areas where the heat is found. They are close to the computer CPU. A high percentage of hot spots are at the rear of a computer. It is vital to check for these spots in all parts in order to have an idea of the best point to place the fan after buying a cooler pad.
Build and Design:
Most of the laptop coolers that have fans are made of metal or plastic. There are others that have a combination of both. Plastic cooler pads are more popular as they are sold at a lower price. Metal cooling pads are bulky and expensive, but they conduct the heat in a better way than the plastic versions. There are chill mats which have crystalline gel. These are easy to carry and cannot be damaged easily, as they do not have moving parts that will break.
Active Cooling Pads:
These pads have fans that either draw the heat from a laptop away or blow a cool breeze onto the laptop. A laptop owner has to choose between the fans that suck in the heat or those that blow cold air.
Passive Cooling Pads:
One of the passive cooling pad types is the lap desk. It has a shape that makes the heat generated by a laptop escape naturally. Such cooling pads come in different sizes and shapes. Most of them are easy to elevate in order to allow air to circulate in the "hot spot" parts. The other kind of passive cooling is a mat version that absorbs heat from the underside of the laptop.
