It is really a sad statement of our times that there are so many viruses and other malware programs getting around on the internet that pose as antivirus software. One such particularly notorious example is Sysinternals Antivirus. It loads onto your PC as though it were a real application. Should you then learn that it is in fact a virus though you'll find it is very difficult to remove Sysinternals Antivirus. When you look in the add remove programs portion of your control panel, you will actually see the option to uninstall Sysinternals Antivirus. However, the virus is not quite so easy to get rid of.

The problem is that true to its real purpose, the virus spreads itself all over your system so that if and when it is discovered it cannot be eliminated quite so easily. It is after all in the best interest of the virus author that it stay on your system as long as possible. The virus' main objective is to find as much of your private data as it can so that it can be transmitted to the author and sold. So by design, it is very difficult to delete Sysinternals Antivirus.

If you aren't already infected, don't put yourself in a position where you can be. It's really tough to get rid of Sysinternals Antivirus so the best thing is to avoid it if you can:

Don't visit obscure websites - many web pages are programmed to hijack your browser and flood you with pop-ups
Don't download unfamiliar freeware and shareware, unless they were recommended by a reliable source.
Don't add people you don't know to your social network, yes, there are virus developers out there who use this medium to infect people as well.

A deluge of pop-ups is generally the first sign of infection. The pop-ups will warn of existing virus infection and will recommend that you save yourself by downloading a utility. Of course, that utility is in fact the virus.

Sysinternals Antivirus removal is not impossible, there are two basic methods, the first consists of deleting all the virus generated files and registry entries one by one. You'll need to delete files with.exe,.bat,.dll and.lnk files that were generated by the virus, be careful about this though, as deleting the wrong files could lead to a system crash. You'll also need to do a registry hack, and remove any virus related entries in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER folders, again though, you should proceed with caution.

As a rule, you really don't want to delete a virus that way, only advanced users should even try. Whether you are an advanced or a regular user though, the best way to remove Sysinternals Antivirus is with a reputable virus remover. Not only, is it safe, faster and easier, it also protects you against future problems of the same nature.
