Civilization V Black Screen PC Fixes 1: Civilization V Black Screen Out of Range Error
Right click on ‘Civilization V’ in Steam -> Properties -> Set launch options. Add “-w 1024 -h 768 -refresh 60″. Run the game, and change video settings in game options to this resolution and refresh rate.
It happens because your monitor doesn’t support default resolution. Remove this command line after you have changed the video settings.

Civilization V Black Screen PC Fixes 2 : Encounter black screen or gray screen after intro video of Civilization 5 (Civ V) PC
I’ve been having the same problem as a lot of people, basically I run Civ 5 in DX 11 mode, get past the intro video, then the screen goes light grey, I can hear the music playing, can activate the Steam layover, but no Civ 5. Here’s how I fixed it.

1. Go into My Documents/My Games/Civilization 5 and edit the file GraphicsSettingsDX11

2. Set Fullscreen to 0. Now you’re running the game in windowed mode.

3. Start up Civ V (in windowed mode) and hopefully it will get past the video (it did for me).

4. Go to Options, Video Options, change back from windowed mode to full screen, and turn OFF the anti-aliasing feature.

5. Hit apply new resolution, and voila.
