Since there's no native MSN messenger for the iPhone, what you can do is utilize a web application. Not only that, you can also combine IM services such as AIM, Yahoo, Myspace, etc. And here are those web apps, BeeJive and eBuddy. Just Google them and it should take you right to it.
Now, here is something else. Just recently eBuddy has changed a bit, just for the iPhone. So now, eBuddy is optimized for the iPhone. But, just pick and choose what suits you. And if you would like to make a shortcut with icon on your home screen. Just tap the + sign at the bottom of your Safari Browser and select Add to Home Page.

Then you are done! There will be an icon on your home screen, and all you would have to do is tap that and it'll take you straight to your eBuddy or BeeJive. Have fun and enjoy! Just don't wear your thumbs out.
Diarmuid Palringo from the App Store allows you to set up MSN and other chat systems like AIM and Google Chat (I'm not sure if you can access the App Store on a jailbroken phone and you have to have an iTunes account).
You have to sign up with Palringo via their website on the iPhone itself but it's free and doesn't seem to have any nasty side effects like spam or anything. It works fine (on MSN anyway, haven't tried any others) but typing for chat on iPhone is excruciatingly slow compared to a regular keyboard. Maybe I'll get faster with practice.
