Only some people know about soy candles. Those who have tried using soy candles can only say good things about them. Soy candles are made from natural wax and more nature friendly than those made from paraffin wax.
Soy wax comes from soybeans. The flakes from soybeans are hydrogenated and the oil is extracted. They can be found mostly in the United States, mainly Iowa, Indiana and Illinois. Soy waxes are more ideal than paraffin because they burn more clearly. The soot that the soy wax emits is white while the paraffin wax emits black-colored soot. That's the difference between the two, but the soot doesn't harm people when it is inhaled.
The wax being used spells the difference between making candle using soybeans and those made from other waxes. The procedures in making soy candles are the same as making candles using paraffin wax. The equipment and techniques used are also the same. You will also use double boiler when melting the soy wax. It is big pot with a smaller pan inside.
Put the broiler on top of the stove and put the water into boil until the wax in the smaller pot melts. The temperature should be between 150 to 180 degrees. If you overheat it, the wax would turn yellowish.
You can mix your desired color when the wax melted. When the wax has been removed from the heat, you can now add your fragrance. The right fragrance concentration should be put in the wax. 7% of the wax weight is the right concentration of the fragrance to be mixed.
The right ratio of the wax and the essence should be 1 pound of wax to 1.12 ounces of essence. Never make the mistake of putting too much fragrance. You can now pour the wax in the mold. Maintain the temperature between 95 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit when pouring it. If you use water to cool the candle, you will cause it to crack.
Soy wax candles and paraffin wax candles are seem similar when you look at them closely. You will notice the difference once you touch them. The softer one is the candle made from soy wax. Soy waxes are not good to be used as novelty, taper and pillar candles. If they have a diameter of at least three inches they can be used as floating candles.
People who have made many candles are able to indicate the difference between of each wax. As a beginner, you need to know that all waxes are melted using the same procedures. You can now be more creative and be able to create more unique candles because you know how paraffin or soy waxes can combine easily with colors and scents. This can also lead you into starting your own business.
