When you want to make easy money in the game, you will need these conditions:
1: At least 50 troops in your army to scare away any group of Deserters.
2: No alliance to anyone, just keep neutral.
3: Patience

Velvet is rare, and there are a lot of velvets in the villages. You can find them for selling so that you can make some money.

Trading is the best way to make easy money, here are some tips for you:
1: The southern towns/villages/cities hold Raw Silk, Spice, and Velvet; whereas the upper towns/villages/cities hold Tools, Iron, Furs, etc.
2: The expensive items are down south. Check the southern places for Velvet first before venturing north.
3: Your inventory should be nothing but Velvet/Spice with the remainder full of food. And do not do any fighting (unless you want to) so you won't need any extra space for items.
