Elegance and sophistication can be seen in the room when you have candles in it. Lighting a candle can bring out romance in the room. This is because of its sweet and pungent scent.

Scented candles are made possible through the oil essence which can be bought in specialty crafts shops and online stores. Oil essences could blend well with the melted waxes because they have the same chemical composition unlike the water-based or alcohol-based scents. Water-based essences settle at the bottom of the wax so it's not being used for candle making.

Placing scented candles in your room could really make the place aromatic even though they are not lighted. If you want to surprise someone with a gift, giving personalized scented candles is a really good choice.

It is very easy to make scented candles, just like reciting ABC. The first thing to do is to choose what kind of wax you want to use. What you choose depends on your own preference and requirements. Palm, soya and beeswax are waxes that are made from natural resources.

The most commonly used waxes are made of paraffin and gel. Paraffin and gel waxes are the ideal types to use in making scented candles. You have to be sure how strong the fragrance of your candle will be in case you want to use gel waxes. Lower density gels can have stronger fragrance than those with higher density.

The procedures in making scented candles start with melting the wax and ends with pouring it in your desired mold. Melting the wax is done with the use of double broiler. It is a pan that has a smaller pot in it and that is where you will put the wax to melt. Fill the pan with water and let it boil to melt the wax.

Monitoring the temperature is a must. You will surely burn the wax if you put the stove at a higher temperature. To be able to prevent this you should have thermometer while you are melting the wax and maintain the heat at 170 to 180 degrees. During wax melting, you should place the wick in your preferred mold.

Once melted, you can take it out from the stove and pour the scent following a ratio of 1:1, meaning 1 ounce of the essence to 1 pound of wax. The concentration of the fragrance will be at 6%. It is not ideal to put more fragrance in the candle than necessary. When too much fragrance has been added to the wax, it will not properly burn when you light it and it is because of the high liquid concentration.

Expect trial and error until you perfect it. You should have a record of your concentration until you finally achieve your desired result of scented candle.

If you want to have much more satisfying results of your candles, you should use brighter colors, different shapes and a variety of essences. With these different things to choose from you could make unique and personalized candles that are more pleasing to the senses. Being able to make your own candles can be very exciting.
