Do not forget that not only are you deciding to take money from your own bank account, you are also agreeing to pay more, if you don’t do it inside of a month. However many benefits your credit card provides, they won’thelp you if the balance goes out of hand. Below are some ideas to help you maintain and develop wise credit card habits: • Have an understanding of the terms of your card. Have a look at offers and if you are benefiting from an interest free term, ensure that you pay off the balance right before it finishes. • Have knowledge of balance transfer and annual cardholder fees. • Get acquainted with interest rates. Every time you use the card, add the interest you’ll pay to the value of the service or item you’re purchasing. Is it a good deal?• Be careful with rewards.Maximise deals, but do not overspend to get to the point where you are offering them.• Plan for repayments. Keep the quantity of payments you will need in your head when you use the credit card. • Be careful with your card information. Your card is your money. Do not make it public. If you are purchasing via the internet, look out for sites which feature security icons, like SSL, SET or PKI.• Examine your statement. The sooner you discover and report any expenses you have not authorised, the more likely it is your card company will be able to reimburse you. • Always keep some extra credit in your card balance. Leaving about 35% of the available credit on your card untouched would help to maintain your good credit rating, and this will also leave you some space for an unexpected emergency. • Don’t move balances without any proper consideration. Be aware of the terms and conditions of balance transfer offers, and be sure they will definitely help you. • Do not open and close credit cards too much. Only think about an additional card if it will give you something you really need.• Don’t count on paying the minimum amount every month. It will take you longer to clear the balance and cost you a lot more. • Do not forget about paying. Failing to pay even the smallest amount by the date on your statement can lead to any deals being withdrawn immediately and may even affect rewards, such as travel insurance. Ensure you’re aware of the time funds take to clear from your bank, and allow for this.• Do not bury your head in the sand. Contact the card provider if you're unable to make the payments. They'll attempt to help, and you might be able to stay away from the expensive consequences of failing to keep up the minimum payment.Credit cards can be the best approach of taking care of your money, however they can also be issues waiting to occur. You can spoil yourself every so often, just make sure before you raise an expensive glass, that you’ve planned how you’re going to pay it off.
