How to Modify Fstab for BeBook to Appear in Linux

Maybe when you use KDE and in Konqueror my BeBook (once connected through the mini-USB cable and once and have pressed OK on my BeBook) does not appear. You do not have an SD card yet (still too unsure what precise brand and model to buy). But you would like to access the internal memory. I'm not fhesse, but I use Kubuntu 8.04 and would happily want to share.

When I connect my bebook with a USB-hub and press OK, I get at least 1 icon on my desktop: 471M removable memory. When there is a sdcard in the bebook I get a second icon.

Clicking on that 471M-icon gives a Dolphin window. Because I never know what to do with that (sorry), I click on "Storage Media" at the left and see the 471M (and the other one, if applicable).

Again clicking on the 471M line gives me the content of the internal memory again, which by that time is really mounted, and, happily, I see to the right that I can open a terminal here (sometimes I have to repeat that to see it...).

When I open that terminal I can do anything what I do with other partitions.

To be able to be mounted it needs a mounting point: I made some dirs in /media, like disk0, disk1 etc. and in /etc/fstab I added the lines:
/dev/sdf /media/disk0 vfat users,auto,exec 0 0
/dev/sdg /media/disk1 vfat users,auto,exec 0 0
(which are only seen after rebooting).

There must be a simpler way to do things, but I'm no expert.

When you're ready with moving stuff, don't pull the cable just like that!
Move out of the directory in question (/media/disk0, for instance) and right-click the icon on the desktop.

Then click on 'safely remove'. When there are still terminals open to the
directory it protests, but when everything is ok, you'll see, especially after having moved big loads, that the moving still had to be done, although all the terminals showed everything you told them to.

Especially important when you plan to update.

Now for some problems.

- When you try to repeat this experience you get problems, at least I have.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it seems to help to pick another usb-port, sometimes it works ok several times in a row, sometimes (like now for instance with me), nothing gets an icon on the desktop, bebook doesn't even give a choice, it start loading the battery immediately.

Last week rebooting the computer seemed to help, but I doubt that was the real reason.

- Sometimes, perhaps after some non-activity, bebook switches back to loading, even when everything went well a little beforehand. Whilst writing the first delivery of this answer, it did so several times, once after only a half a minute or less of non-activity in that window, but I was so lucky (huh?) that I could restart the procedure with success each time.

Not now, though. By the way, I have the last bebook update installed.

I decided to use the internal memory for updates only and to read from sdcards only. I work with them directly via a computer slot, not via bebook any more.

As for the sdcards needed for update: again it didn't work with my Sandisk 512MB sdcard, in linux or in XP, which I can format ok with the Panasonic program, so seems to be ok.
Again I borrowed a 1GB card, which worked right away. Perhaps because that is a fast (ultra, or something like that) card, Bebook folks??

Well, I hope that this second answer doesn't get chucked out, so I can enjoy some more reading with my bebook.
