Many couples are successfully able to put things back together having spent some time apart from one another. Separating while married can allow each person time to think about what they would like for their marriage, and learn new and constructive ways of relating to each other.

A separation probably will not succeed if a couple is not really well suited towards each other, but it can work wonders for a couple that just needs a little space apart.

Give and Take

A marriage will not work if you are not eager to meet each other in the middle.
Basically, you don't have to be 100 percent right always. Of course, you certainly don't have to be completely servile, either.

But what this does mean, is that you must be open to hearing what your partner has to say and take into deep thought about what you are willing to give in on.

Not all conflicts can be solved by compromise. Differences in career goals, and whether or not to have children are examples of life decisions that are difficult to solve through negotiation.

You MUST communicate

You and your spouse need to become fully prepared to determine for yourselves exactly where it is you wish this relationship to go. If both agree that each one's goals are able to be compromised by the other, then you need to work towards this without anger, jealously, hurt feelings, guilt, and so on.

You have to clearly communicate what you need from your partner; don't expect them to be able to read your mind.

Consulting a Counselor

This counselor can provide unbiased and objective opinions, and they are not involved with any of the issues between both parties.

But you should take a counselor's advice into consideration, since a good counselor can be very helpful in helping you pinpoint the problems within your marriage. One of the things you must keep in mind while you are learning how to save your marriage after separation is that there are no quick fixes.

There is a good chance you can make the marriage work if both of you are willing to compromise, communicate, and make things work. You can surprise yourself when you dedicate some time considering why you want to remain in the relationship and the best ways to make it happen.
