How to transfer files using File Sharing between iPad and Computer?

Using iTunes 9.1 or later, you can copy files to and from your computer and apps on iPad that support File Sharing. For example, Pages for iPad supports File Sharing, so you can create a document in Pages on your iPad, then copy it to your Mac so you can open it in Pages for Mac OS X.

File Sharing requires:
1. iTunes 9.1 or later
2. Mac OS 10.5.8 or later
3. An iPad
4. iPad applications that support File Sharing

5 Steps to copy/transfer files using File Sharing

1. Connect iPad to your computer using the included Dock Connector to USB cable.

2. Launch iTunes 9.1 or later on your computer.

3. Select your iPad from the Devices section of iTunes.



4. Click the Apps tab and scroll down to the bottom of the page.

Note: If you do not see the File Sharing section shown in the image below, your iPad does not have any apps that support File Sharing.



5. Under the File Sharing section, you’ll find a list of apps currently installed on your iPad that support File Sharing.



Select an app to view a list of the files associated with that app on your iPad.

Note 1: iTunes will back up the shared files on your iPad when it syncs iPad with your computer. You cannot select and restore specific files from a backup, so be sure to copy files you have created on iPad frequently to a folder on your computer.

Note 2: You will lose the files shared to an application if you delete that app from iPad. Deleting an app on iPad with shared files will also delete the files on the iPad associated with it. To avoid losing shared files on iPad associated with the app, back up and copy shared files to your computer frequently, and especially prior to deleting the application from your iPad.
