A well designed office can make all the difference when striving for creativity. Uninspiring surroundings are not ideal when it comes to stimulating your brain and you are not going to find inspiration in a dull, lifeless office. It is important to really think about the design of your working environment if you want to get the right results. It might seem like extra time, effort and money, but the right furnishings, office partitioning or even just the right colours can make a big difference and might just benefit you in the long run. Just take a look at offices belonging to entertainment studios, like pixar; they look like children's play areas, but they inspire the right creativity in the staff.

As well as inspiring creativity, a well designed office should efficiently maximize the use of space and facilities. If you are a small company with a limited budget there are still simple steps you can take to improve your office. To improve the office is to imrpove the working environment which obviously has an impact on the staff, a well designed working environment can actually boost productivity by motivating and inspiring the staff.

Here are some of the simple, small steps that can make the big differences:
Creative Layout
Office divisions can be used to seperate space and provide a variety of benefits. The partitioning can be used to provide privacy in an otherwise open plan area office. It can be easily changed based entiverly on how your office operates. Half height office partitions can be used to provide personal space but also allow for ease of communication, retaining a social atmosphere as well as a level of privacy. There are also more creative forms of partitions, including curved partitions and sliding partitions. They can also be moved around quite easily to stop the space becoming samey.

Colour
You dont have to stick to white walls when designing your office space. In order to inspire creativity in their employees many creative companies choose to have their offices painted with bright, bold colours. Some areas even break up the dull areas of their office and create some interesting focal points by adding artwork or graphics to their office space. Creating a strong colour scheme that is followed through in to furniture and appliances can look very striking.

Lighting
It is always best to go with natural lighting if it is available. Not only is it the best sort of lighting for working in, but it will save costs too. Additional lighting is of course practical particularly for winter when natural lighting is not as long lasting or useful, and the use of desk lamps and other such lighting can give the office a whole new tone. Selective lighting can also be an effective way of drawing attention to certain areas of the office and the décor. Avoiding flurescent lighting is always advised, it is usually considered much to harsh for an office environment.

Furnishings
There are now so many different furnishings available that buying the usual black chairs and wood desks is just a waste of time, there are much more stylish and much more comfortable options available. Try to dabble with a few different shapes and materials, as this will help to make your office look and feel more interesting. Make sure things tie together though and that they are still practical for a working environment. Too many shapes and materials in your office can start to make it look cluttered. The general rule to follow is that your furnishings appear as an extension of your office's décor and colour scheme.

Space Allocation
Always try to get the most possible out of the space available to you. Efficient placement of furniture and office partitioning can free up much needed space. Be certain that you have left enough space for your employees to move around the office with walkways, and ensure that they have ample space for communication; this will ensure that the office space remains effective and productive. Employees can get stressed and overwhelmed and usually like a small space or area where they can go for a short break; to unwind or just strentch, providing them with this space can help productivity.
