Often occurring as an epidemic, the flu results from threekinds of orthomyxoviruses: influenzae types A, B, and C. Type A viruses tend tobe the most virulent, and constantly mutate into new strains, making permanentimmunization against them difficult. Type A influenza is most often responsiblefor large epidemics. The type B virus, generally a less severe variety, mutatesoccasionally, causing smaller, more localized outbreaks. Type C, which causesonly mild illness resembling a common cold, is very stable virus. During aninitial bout with a type C infection, the body produces antibodies that conferimmunity against future infections. Symptoms of all types of influenza usuallyappear following an incubation period of one to four days after initialexposure, and run their course over a period of seven to 10 days. The elderly, the very young, and the chronically ill are at increased risk of potentiallyserious complications such as bacterial bronchitis and pneumonia.   Prevention   Ayearly flu vaccination is recommended for people at high risk of developingcomplications, including those with chronic heart or kidney disease; chroniclung disease (including asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, tuberculosis, orcystic fibrosis); diabetes mellitus or other chronic metabolic disorder; severeanemia; and depressed immunity due to diseases such as AIDS or medicaltreatments such as chemotherapy for cancer. Women who will be in the 2 nd or 3 rd trimester of pregnancy during influenza season. Health careworkers and people over age 50 or who live in a nursing facility are also atheightened risk. The vaccine should be administered before the start of fluseason, between October 1 and the middle of November. Avoid close contact withthose who are infected. Amantadine or rimantadine may be prescribed by aphysician during local influenza epidemics, to be taken daily if high – riskpatients have not been immunized for that year.   TheTreatment Getplenty of bed rest, preferably in a warm, well-ventilated room. Take over thecounter pain relievers to ease aches and reduce fever. Drink plenty of fluidsto keep mucus secretions thin and easy to expel. Drink warm liquids or garglewith salt water to alleviate sore throat. A cool mist humidifier may help tothin mucus. For the elderly or those with a serious chronic illness, the antiviraldrugs amantadine or rimantadine may help reduce the severity of symptoms fromtype A infections, if administered within 24hours of onset. Zanamivir oroseltamivir can be used to treat type A and type B infections. To be morebalance in our approach we have to explore the alternative influenza –prevention and treatment. The recommendations are you have to consume plenty offluids, especially fresh juices, herbal teas, soups and quality water, toprevent dehydration and help flush out the body. To shorten the length of theflu, go on a liquid diet emphasizing hot herbal teas and hot broth for one ortwo days. Take hot chicken or turkey soup. This is grandmother’s old remedy andit is still good today. Add a bit of cayenne pepper to help prevent and breakup congestion. Avoid dairy products mucus forming foods and sugar. The otheralternative influenza – prevention and treatment is so controversial but ishighly effective in treating influenza and even all diseases such as cancer andaids. Thistreatment is suppressed in the U.S. but is now gaining prominence and respectto a lot of people and also in the scientific world and not to mention thatmost European doctors are already using this one. The alternativeinfluenza – prevention and treatment as provided by the “one minute cure forall diseases” has gained the respect of a lot of people. The claim is sosimple; the treatment is at the cellular level and research showed that if youdeprive a cell 35% of its required levels of oxygen for 2 to 3days, the cellwould become acidic, malignant and cancerous. Most people don't know is thatlack of oxygen is not only the underlying cause of cancer but is also the causeof most diseases. When the body is supplied and delivered with abundant andenough amounts of oxygen, no cancer cells, viruses, harmful bacteria, toxins, pathogens and disease microorganisms can survive because they cannot survive ina highly oxygenated bodies.   Forfurther information and about the alternative influenza - prevention andtreatment and for more articles about the causes, symptoms and diagnosis ofsinusitis.
