Ergonomics refers to designing materials and tools in such a way that their efficiency is maximized and the user's health is protected. It’s the main reason why keyboard keys are not arranged alphabetically, and it is also the reason why the brake pedal is placed right next to the gas. In short, it is responsible for making things easier for people to use.

Ergonomics can be classified into three main types: physical, cognitive, and organizational. Physical ergonomics refers to how easy it is to use something in relation to its physical aspects. Easy grip handles and stress reducing parts are made to improve physical ergonomics. Cognitive ergonomics refers to how easy it is to use something in a mental sense. Automatic computations and file sorting helps improve cognitive ergonomics.

While most people are familiar with the first two types of ergonomics, only a few are aware of the concept of the third type, organizational ergonomics. This refers to the efficiency of an organization’s framework, policies, and processes. In short, it’s how well a business operates. To improve organizational ergonomics, an organization must have good communication, teamwork, and quality management.

This type of ergonomics is essential to a company’s success; without it, the organization will be a mess. An ergonomics presentation, if integrated with Lean or 5s practices, can help a company have a more organized and functional framework. Furthermore, workers will experience a significant boost in morale, and customer satisfaction will rise up.

Through an ergonomics presentation, workers can be effectively introduced to the concept and importance of having a highly ergonomic organization. A presentation is mainly composed of different modules to help workers absorb as much as they can. It also includes an explanation of case studies showing how ergonomics can be improved.

Aside from being an educating tool for workers, an ergonomics presentation can also serve as a reference guide during the whole process improvement stage. It can be used like a manual from time to time to help workers refresh their memories and remain aware of the impacts of good ergonomics. This way, companies don’t just become ergonomic; they stay ergonomic for a long time.
