Intuit Merchant Services
Intuit Merchant Services or Quickbook Merchant Services offers a tiered payment structure for credit card processing. They charge a set up fee of $59.95 with a $19.95 service charge. The cost for their service is $0.27 per transaction with a discount rate that ranges from 1.64 - 2.44%. There are several advantages to using Intuit Merchant Services for your payment processing needs. Intuit also produces Quicken software and has built a solid reputation in the business world. Furthermore, their merchant services deal with Quicken software providing ease in accounting for their customers. Furthermore, Intuit Merchant Service's pre-built web stores and shopping cart options offer an easy path to internet commerce for businesses that are upgrading their systems or are just beginning the foray into online sales. Businesses that do not use Intuit software may lose some of the benefits of Intuit Merchant Services because users report difficulties interfacing with other accounting software. In addition, Intuit Merchant Services employs a cancellation fee for their product which varies with the business level of usage. Therefore, the consumer should discuss cancellation fees before beginning service with a merchant service provider.
Costco Merchant Services
Costco Merchant Services, a subsidiary of Costco Inc., has partnered with Elavon to offer credit card processing services. The cost for their service is 1.48% plus $0.20 for retail classified transactions. Phone, mail and internet charges incur a rate of 1.99% plus $0.27. Costco executive members do not pay the statement fee or application fee. For nonmembers the monthly statement fee is $4.95 per month and there is a one-time application fee of $25.00. Costco Merchant Services offers added services to their customers including 24 hour customer service, competitive pricing on new and leased terminals, American Express and debit card processing (for an extra fee) and check and store/gift card processing. Reviews of the service suggest many benefits including lower rates than other merchant services such as Total Merchant Services and America Merchant Services. Other providers such as Bank Merchant Services, Mastercard Merchant Services and Chase Merchant Services do not give information about their exchange rates online. It is not clear if Costco charges an early termination fee to end their service. It was not listed in their product information, yet online reviews mentioned that the reviewer paid an early cancellation fee when they ended the service early. As always consumers should discuss cancellation fees before beginning service.
