Kitesurfing is an extremely satisfying extreme sport, but it comes with incredible risks as can be expected. You have a kite, you have a board, you can surf, you can fly, what seems to be the problem? The gear of course. Insufficient and inappropriate kitesurfing gear seem to be the reasons for major recorded accidents. There’s a kite, there’s a board. What’s there to miss or misjudge?

Did you know that there are over thirty kite types used in kitesurfing and an innumerous safety devices that most times fail at their very purpose? And kitesurfing being an extreme sport in its very definition comes with reasonable hype that makes adventurers go for the toughest of gear to achieve maximum thrills. The sustained thrill of kitesurfing often prompts kitesurfers to go further out to the sea and after equipment problems swimming back to the shore could prove to be an impossibility resulting in drowning.

Kitesurfing gear is available in many marine sport stores, but choosing the right equipment is a very important part of the sport. The new, highly depowerable kites are receiving wide acceptance among seasoned kitesurfers due to their ability to depower the kite when the wind is too strong and hard to manipulate. Often times strong winds cause kitesurfers to collide with hard objects because it is next to impossible to manage the kite in a split second. Other safety gear include knives to cut off the kite in case it becomes tangled or is driving the surfer into a potentially threatening situation. Kitesurfers also run into the risk of colliding with windsurfers as both sports depend on the power and direction of the wind. Kitesurfing gear that best facilitates managing kite direction and wind is important to avoid such unforeseen circumstances.

Kitesurfers are also advised to practice the sport in groups and the buddies are always supposed to maintain an eye on each other. In this regard kitesurfing is quite a team sport as teaming up is not only fun but ideal for safety. Also having a group can help you choose the right kitesurfing gear through shared experiences.
