Knowledge about Down Garments

Down coat or down jacket is always people's favorite winter clothes, since it gives people more warmth than other kinds of clothes. What do you know about the down garments? Do you know what it is made of? Do you know how it is made? Do you know what kind of parts a piece of down consists of? You can find the answers in this article.

Down content refers to the proportion of fine hair in the infillings; it is always represented by means of percentage. Down garments are most 70/30, that is 70% of fine hair and 30% of feather.

Working process:

The working process consists of two parts: down feather process and down clothes process.
Down feather:

First step: sterilization. Use the peracetic acid (concentration is 5%) to sterilize the down.
Second step: Wash. Put the water into the washing machine (water's temperature is 60 ℃), add cleaning agent, and wash the down for 40 minutes.

Third step: high-temperature sterilization. Dewater the down; put it into the High-temperature high-pressure warehouse.

Fourth step: Fine washing. Wash the down for 40 minutes in 80 ℃ water.

Fifth step: Deodorization processing. Rinse the down in clean water for 15 minutes.

Sixth step: Dewatering and drying under the temperature of 140 ℃

Seventh step: selecting the down feather. Use the blower to classify the hair and the feather. The hair and the feather will be blow to different places owning to different weight.

Down clothes process:

Like the process of other clothes, this process requires cutting and stitching. When putting the down feather into the shell fabric, workers have to wear gloves to avoid making the down dirty. The down feather needs to be weighed before being put into the shell fabric, in order to achieve high quality. While stitching, workers needs to make sure the stitches are even. The manufacturing of down clothes is an assembly line process.

A piece of down coat / jacket consists of three major parts:

1. Fabric: The shell fabric of down garments is normally made of nylon. The reasons are that nylon is durable, smooth and soft. High-density nylon, Oxford fabric, Peach Skin fabric are also often used.

2. Linings: Down's linings are always made of nylon; fine woven ottoman and polyester fiber are also used for making linings.

3. Inner material: some down garments have polyester coating fabric, and Tyvek is also often used.

We know that down clothes was once very large and make people look fat. However, down garments in nowadays have new features; the most important one is that down garments are more fashionable. Different from the down garments a decade ago, the down now is a fashion well welcomed by people at different ages. Down garments have their fashion elements. The shell fabric is novel, so that the outside appearance will attract more attention. Some long down coats make people look slimmer.
