The best moment to begin training your little dog is as soon as you get him. It is easier to learn the correct way to do things the first time than to have to untrain unruly habits first.

The first thing you will want to do after purchasing your dog is to take her home. The safest way to transport your puppy is by using either a chest harness that attaches to the seatbelt or to use a carrier . A dog who is not used to to those devices might feel uncomfortable at first, and cry, or express a desire to rest on your lap. This is an unsafe practice and should not be done. Start using the dog seatbelt or car seat early on and your little buddy will eventually not mind it.

When you arrive at your house, the very necessary puppy house training should take shape. Luckily, for most dog breeds there is definitive instinct to deficate away from where they spend their time. Most of the time the very young of little dogs will often take a few steps away from its mother before deficating. Most dogs are creatures of habit so as soon as you arrive home, start walking the young dog to a place where you want it to pee. Be patient as it walks around and explore its new home. After it does its business, praise it for doing the right thing. Doing its business outdoors can be scarey in the beginning, because that is when a pup is very vulnerable. To a puppy who is used to being indoors, the great outdoors can be overwhelming at first, so try not to be shocked if it darts away. Patiently bring your pup back to the right location, and reassure it that you are there for it. Bring it back to the same location frequently, and give it a moment to sniff around. Once it detects the odor of its last defication, it will hopefully feel ready to repeat its previous. Again, offer plenty of praise as you learn more information about dogs

Never punish your little dog for making mistakes. That will only make it uneasy of you. Pushing the little dog’s face into its feces is a useless practice. When it has an accident, clean up the urine, or pick up the feces and take it outdoors, showing the dog where to put it.

When walking your little buddy you will want to utilize a good leash to helpmake it safe. The use of a choke collar is not a good idea, because it creates discomfort. To train the puppy to walk using a leash, say "Come on”. Then gently bring the dog along, on your left side. Reward the puppy when he does walks along beside you without pulling. This type of leash walking can be utilized where there is a good amount of room around.

When you are with your puppy in a crowded location, such as an outdoor event, you will want your dogpet to learn "heel”. State the command and gently move the dog next to your heel. Reward the dog after it listens.

Another command that he should know is "stay”, which is helpful when your around people over who are uneasy around some dogs. Offer the command and then walk off a few feet. If the dog attempts to follow you, place the puppy back to the same place, state the command again, and walk away a few feet. Begin by staying away for only a few seconds, return, and offer the dog praise. Slowly increase the time as the dog learns.

Remember, dog training md should be a pleasant time for both of you, because you will be this puppy's caregiver. When you are each comfortable with the basics, you might want to train your new friend some tricks. Have fun.
