What Are The Causes Of High Blood Pressure and How Can You Identify ThemYou must get it treated as soon as possible in order to avoid serious illness from lack of treatment. It's easy to get your blood pressure checked, and you can even buy kits to check it yourself at home (though the cheaper units are not considered very accurate). Every individual is different and may present with different symptoms, we will discuss some of the most common ones here.Smoking is a habit that can contribute to high blood pressure. As if there weren't already enough reasons not to smoke, smokers have a greater than normal risk of developing hypertension. Regular smoking hardens the arteries and creates dangerous blockages which can cause or worsen high blood pressure. The length of time someone has smoked for, and how consistently, all have an effect on one's blood pressure. But people who smoke in moderation, or who are frequently around others who smoke, are endangering their health. While it's not always easy to quit smoking, it's worth the effort, as this is a simple way to lower your blood pressure. Heavy drinkers of alcohol are putting themselves at risk for hypertension. You may have heard that light drinking, of wine in particular, is good for your heart health, but this only refers to one or two drinks. But drinking alcohol excessively raises your blood pressure, and can also create other problems, such as to your liver. This issue is further complicated by the fact that many people have trouble limiting themselves when it comes to alcohol, and are better off abstaining. This means that it may be helpful to have a drink or two, but beyond this you are risking high blood pressure and other problems.High cholesterol is usually something that accompanies hypertension, so controlling your cholesterol is one way to approach high blood pressure. When it comes to controlling your cholesterol, you have to know the difference between "good" and "bad" cholesterol. LDL is the harmful type of cholesterol, and this causes blockages in the arteries which is bad for the heart.Good cholesterol, or HDL, does the opposite and helps to clear your arteries. You can increase the levels of good cholesterol in your body by getting more exercise and eating a healthy diet. Unhealthy fats such as trans fats, junk food and a sedentary lifestyle all contribute to bad cholesterol in your body. Lowering your cholesterol often helps to lower your blood pressure as both are important factors when it comes to your overall health. Your medical and family history, exercise habits and diet can all be contributing factors when it comes to hypertension. If you have high blood pressure, your doctor can help you identify any risk factors so you can make the necessary changes. Since the causes of high blood pressure, like the ones looked at in this article, are so diverse, it's important to monitor your blood pressure regularly. When you've pinpointed the cause of your own high blood pressure, it can be simpler to come up with a plan to control it.
