The depths of the placid blue ocean envelop the horizon that is bleached dry by the hot summer sun in the midday sky. This is one of the hottest days of the year, but laughter can still be heard. A monolithic white ship sails into view as it escorts hundreds of people on a journey across the sea. The pool that is on the main deck is swarming with passengers looking for a good way to cool off. Children play in the water with inflatable beach balls as well as plastic inner tubes. A riveting game of pool basketball is also being played by kids. With fruity sodas clutched in their hands, other children choose the shade provided by umbrellas.
It’s a unique talent of nautical kids to always find something wonderfully fun to do aboard a ship. For those who are not simply content with sailing on the ship, games and other entertainment is required. Boredom targets kids more easily than other types of people. Many nautical kids are excellent at discovering small ways to make the journey simply fly by. Some of the games nautical kids play are hopscotch, hockey, and other court sports. These activities are group games that help nautical kids to make friends when on a boat. For the more outgoing types of children, these games are ideal. Another great advantage of these games is that they can often be played in shady areas. While the risk of heatstroke is present, it is significantly less whilst playing in the shade. Reminding nautical kids to hydrate is often the best way to keep them playing games and having fun. The classic game of jacks is a wonderful activity for those kids who are more withdrawn. A group is also possible for playing jacks on the one condition that the group remains on the smaller side.
Sporting courts are all the rage to have on cruise ships. Many ships have basketball and volleyball courts on them, to name but a scarce few. Children can play to their hearts content on these fields. Through the various games, nautical kids learn teamwork and interpersonal skills. More importantly, these games allow kids to interact with kids their own ages. Friendships made on these cruise ships often turn into good pen-pals when the trip is over.
The sit down type of games that include chess and cards can also be learned by children. An added bonus of card games is they promote logical thinking and process of elimination as developing skills. Because cards are often seen as more mature games, kids can feel included in a more ‘grown up’ world when they play. Gin rummy is a very simply card game that many kids grasp the concept of both quickly and well. Pouring over and utilizing compasses and sextants are also a great source of entertainment for kids. A great aspect of these items is that they readily supply basic math skills as well. Nautical kids can have tons of fun on their journey across the sea, and they always find ways to keep busy. Nautical kids toys also make a wonderful choice for beach decor.
