Online Indiana Health Insurance Options For Individuals

Online Indiana health insurance options are plentiful. Many of the nation’s largest health insurers offer coverage in Indiana at competitive rates. Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthOne, Celtic, Humana and Consumers Life offer a wide array of policies that give individuals and families in Indiana a wide range of options.

The least expensive type of health care coverage in Indiana is a “short term” plan. Often referred to as “temporary medical coverage,” these types of policies are an inexpensive way to provide major medical benefits for a period of less than 12 months. Persons that are temporarily without coverage or between employers will benefit most from these plans. It is also popular for students that have just graduated or anyone waiting for their new group health insurance plan to begin.

Short-term plans cost less than other plans but will not cover pre-existing conditions. And if the policyholder develops a major illness, they may not be able to renew the policy for another term. Thus, it is important to discuss your options with an experienced broker that is licensed in Indiana.

Family health insurance plans are also available from each of the Indiana carriers. Office visits are traditionally covered with a small copay of about $20-$40 and preventive expenses are paid by the insurer. This can be very helpful if there are many small children in the household requiring numerous wellness visits along with common flu and virus office visits.

Although Indiana family health insurance is the most expensive type of policy, out-of-pocket expenses are usually low for covered office visits and prescriptions. Of course, larger inpatient and outpatient hospital claims often fall under a deductible of between $500 and $5,000. Emergency room visits are usually subject to a deductible as well. But preventive benefits are provided with no waiting period or copay.

Many individuals and families prefer to provide coverage for only the expensive claims, such as hospital stays, inpatient and outpatient surgeries and emergency room visits. Although the risk of paying higher out of pocket expenses dramatically increases, the premium savings can also be significant. With larger family policies, the reduction in rates can easily be thousands of dollars each year.

Most “high deductible” plans are “HSA eligible.” An Indiana Health Savings Account will allow you to pay for qualified medical, vision and dental expenses with tax-favored funds. You pick both the insurer and bank when you set up this type of policy, and you retain a great degree of control over how your health care dollars are spent. HSAs have been gaining in popularity, especially among the self-employed.

The availability of Network providers is typically not an issue. Most carriers have large networks of doctors, hospitals and ancillary facilities. In most parts of the state, residents do not have to drive far to receive treatment from a doctor or specialist. In fact, the major insurers have nationwide Networks, so policyholders can use specialty providers in many other parts of the country.

Indiana medical premiums are very affordable compared to most parts of the country. Rates have remained fairly steady in recent years and there are many types of plans that an experienced Indiana health insurance broker can provide.
