While natural scenery dominates thelandscape, the people of Alaska bring the place to life. The capital of Juneau is nestled in the InsidePassage . And it has no highway access to either Canada or the rest of the state.The only way to get there is by boat or plane. Cruise line passengers provide apopulation glut during the summer. Further up the coast, Anchorage boasts the claim of being the biggest city in Alaska . Within sight of Mt. McKinley ,it is both a modern city and an outpost as well. Salmon fishing is availabledowntown near the museums and other cultural highlights. In the heart of thestate, Fairbanks sits within 400 miles of theArctic Circle and about 120 miles from Denali National Park . National parks providebeautiful places to visit in Alaska . Denali National Park sits between Fairbanks and Anchorage . Mt. McKinley ,the tallest peak in North America , sitsnestled within its borders. Wolves, caribou and bear make up a good deal of thepopulation of this park. During the summer, hiking and camping are very popularactivities. Glacier BayNational Park sits at the northern end of Alaska’s panhandle . Thispark encompasses bays carved by retreating glaciers. Whales patrol the areaalong with at least five varieties of salmon. If you want to see the world ofice, then Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve is a place to visit. Thenation’s largest national park boasts nine of the top sixteen tallest peaks inthe country. With glaciers and ice fields, it is a site to behold. Othersites to visit in Alaska go from shore to shore. From Barrow at the far north to Kodiak Island in thesouth, there are dozens of destinations in Alaska worth the journey. Don’t forget theGates of the Arctic National Park or visiting the Kenai Fjords . The wholefamily can find something interesting.
