One of the tasks in sales training coaching that many people are resistant to is placing calls. This may be cold calls or even calling prospective buyers. People are reluctant to place calls for fear of rejection and negative reactions. They may have experienced a prospect hanging up on them or even shouting at them.
You may feel as if your stomach is tied in knots or that pounding in your chest just does not want to stop. Stay calm, as this is normal. It is just a way that your body is telling you something. So calm down and try to listen to what it is telling you. When you listen, you may find out what it is you need to do. You may want to stop and think about the call and then ask yourself a few questions and get those feelings to subside and in time disappear.
Here are some sales training coaching tips for you to follow to make you feel more at ease and eager to make that next call!
The first tip is that when you start feeling nervous or anxious, make sure and ask yourself the following questions:
• Will this client or customer be valuable to me?
• Should I help this person?
• And, am I ready to offer to this prospective client a service or product of value?
It is easier for us to speak to a person when we are not trying get something from them. We tend to relax when we are there for them in times of need. We should place ourselves in that state when placing calls. When our body is relaxed we can proceed and make that call, if we are somewhat tense then we will need to proceed but to make sure that we are cautious with what we say and lastly if we get back to that nervous state then we should stop and re-focus.
Another sales training coaching tip that you can follow is that to have a script on hand. Some people do not like the idea of scripts. They say that it doesn’t sound natural or that it doesn’t make a good impression on clients. Well, I believe that it is how you deliver your script that counts. Just watch any movie or tv show and you can see for yourself that all you need is to practice and rehearse your lines to get the message across without looking like a fake.
The third and final sales training coaching tip I am sharing with you is that when you are about to make a call do something weird or silly. Jump up and down or make faces. Do something that will make you forget that you are nervous. This often puts the feelings aside to make you more comfortable on your next call.
So remember to focus, practice and do something that will take your nervousness off so that the next time you are about to make a call, you will not feel any reluctance and proceed with making numerous sales calls to reach your goals.
