Link building is very important if someone wants to build new links to sites for improving traffic and search engine rankings. There are certain parameters to be considered for effective link building. One of the main parameter is exchanging links with high Page Rank sites.

Once links are placed, they are kept out of observation, because the main target was to place links. As link building is a continuous process, most of the website owners keep on looking for new links and forget the ones that are already established.

As far as SEO strategies are concerned, already placed links are as important as new links. Here are some ways to Optimize Existing Links for Maximum SEO Benefit:

Work with Anchor Texts of existing links on regular basis

Anchor text is very important when it comes to On-Page Optimization. It not only tells the web user what the page is all about, but also assists the search engines to determine the relevancy of a page to a particular keyword. Use your main targeted keywords in your anchor texts. Keep informing to make changes in anchor texts with updated content to the webmaster of the site, where your site’s link is placed.

Also try to keep some portion of the anchor text to be un-optimized, so that it appears natural to search engines. Otherwise search engines will penalize your site if your link profile looks like it’s obviously been manipulated for keywords.

You may also use the Back Link Verifier to verify the existing links established to your site.

Try to fetch more links

The sites where you have already placed links can bring more links to your site, if you intend to do so. Let’s say that a webmaster found one page of your website good for placing links and you get a link exchange request on a particular page. Once you have exchanged links as per the request made, you can email webmaster with a relevant page and ask for a deep link as well.

Keep a watch on Errors

Sometimes a link to your site can show the 404 (page not found) error. The reason could be like misspelled URLs or server error. Always try to keep a watch on such errors. 404 errors could be rectified either by correcting the misspelled URLs or by redirecting the link to its actual landing page with a 301 redirect.

Give a shot to the Server Header Response Checker to check if desired server response codes are being returned from the server side and correct them accordingly.
