If you’re thinking of saving money on your impending move, then consider choosing a self-service move.  These types of moves are a compromise between the do-it-yourself move and full-service move, but what exactly does a self-service move entail?  Find out by reading below what a self-service move means to you. Leave the driving to the truck rental company If you’re hesitant to drive a big moving truck, you’ll be pleased to know that with a self-service move, you leave the driving to the professionals.  That can be a big load of your mind, especially if you’re moving long-distance or to mountainous regions.  And best of it all, the extra fee for the driver is usually not exorbitant, as it’s usually only for one day unless it’s an interstate move.   With a self-service move, you’ll still have to pay for extras such as the daily insurance rate, any extra mileage charges that apply, a return-trip fee, or refueling.  And if you need any moving equipment, you’ll also have to either borrow from your family or friends or rent the equipment from the truck rental company.   Packing and unpacking Similar to a do-it-yourself move, a self-service move means that you’ll be packing and unpacking your belongings.  You’ll also have to purchase packing supplies such as heavy-duty boxes and bubble-wrap paper.  But that’s not much different from a full-service move where you also have to purchase the packing supplies and even pack and unpack your own boxes unless you pay for that extra service.   Loading and unloading the truck Just like a do-it-yourself move, you’ll be responsible for loading and unloading the truck. Though that might seem like a lot of work, here’s where you save the money since you’re not paying for the movers to load and unload your goods like with a full-service move.  If you don’t think that you can handle this portion of the move by yourself, ask your friends or family members to help you.  Even paying a couple of movers that you find through advertising in the paper will you cost you less than choosing a full-service moving company.      A truck rental move can save thousands of dollars on your next move, as the biggest cost is renting the vehicle.
