SmokeScreen Privacy Software Now Freeware

SmokeScreen offers users a way to instantly hide sensitive information on their computer screens by allowing them to perform any of several quick and discreet actions that they have defined in the program's options. A custom screen-capture that the user has made previously is shown, covering up anything currently on the screen when the action is performed. When the coast is clear, users can then double-click anywhere on the screen capture to return the screen to its previous state. A password option can also be configured to require users to enter a password to close the screen capture or change program options. The program runs quietly in the System Tray and either show its normal icon there or an invisible icon so that only the person who started it knows that it is running. The program can also mute the system volume when its hiding feature is activated to hide sounds from movies, games, etc.

The program has been updated to version 2.0 from previous initial release which was version 1.0. In addition to this version of the program being offered as freeware, new features in this release include several new actions that can be performed to activate the program's hiding feature. Users can define these actions in the program's options dialog. They include moving the mouse cursor all the way to any edge of the screen, moving the cursor to any of the screen's four corners, clicking both left and right mouse buttons simultaneously, rolling the mouse wheel, or clicking the middle mouse button.

The program could prove useful to users who often work with sensitive information or anyone who is just ocncerned about their privacy being compromised by prying eyes.
