You may still be getting more than you can handle. So, what do you dowith them? Do you answer them, ignore them, delete them? There is also a good chance that many people that sent you an email saidsomething to this effect: "Hello, welcome.....(puke) check out my websiteor look at my business." Yes, even in today's day and age when socialnetworking has become the norm, people still lead with their business and notthemselves. So, what do you do with those? Well, here is a fun list of what you should do and some stuff that you shouldnot do. What you should not do: 1. Don't delete them (you will lose a potentially good contact) 2. Don't ignore them (it just comes across as rude, this is social networkingafterall) 3. Don't respond to them in a group mail (I have seen a lot of people do thisto try and decrease their inbox as quickly as possible and have turned apotential personal relationship into an impersonal blow off). What should you do: 1. Respond to each and every email. If it's a simple hello, write hello back.If it's "hey, look at my business" then ask them to look at yourbusiness in return (while I would not condone the look at my business tactic tostart a relationship, if someone sends me an email that asks me to look attheir business, I just turn it around as an opportunity to do the same inreturn). 2. Add them as a personal contact. This will build up your contact list thatwill come in handy someday. 3. Develop a relationship with the people you correspond with. 4. When you open an email, click on the person's profile and see if there issomething that you can comment on of personal interest. You will also be ableto see where they are located and what business they are promoting. People like to do business with people they know, like and trust. So, when youbuild a relationship, you build a potential business partner.
