When it comes to any fitness program, the two areas that concern women are the physical aspect and the motivation. For most, the hardest part is overcoming the inertia of doing nothing to actually get started. It takes a high level of motivation to take charge of your health and to do something. Nothing says you have to accept your current physical appearance if you want to shed a few pounds. Staying motivated once you've started, however, is a whole new challenge. Implement the following strategies to help you maintain a high level of motivation. If you find yourself increasingly challenged to maintain your forward momentum, then you may want to consider a different approach. Plan out rewards for meeting certain performance goals. It can be very helpful to set up this kind of positive reinforcement. So, if you complete your entire workout as planned, you could treat yourself to a healthy reward. A possible reward is to stop by a healthy sports drink bar for a delicious treat. Or, make something special such as a hot soaking bath with your favorite bubble bath, that evening, but only if you reach your workout goal. Stick to your rewards for performance goals and be creative with them. Don't overlook the importance of your intuition when it comes to your fitness efforts. If a part of your body, or an inner sense of some kind is telling you to pay attention to something, do so. If you find that you feel super "out of it" for no apparent reason, then be sure there is a reason. If you're aware of your moods and thoughts, you don't have to let them affect you so much, and you can stay focused on what you want to accomplish. Consider what happens when you get much more sleep than you're accustomed to -you often end up waking up tired, as your cycles are all out of whack. Missing more than two workouts in a row can have a damaging effect on your whole fitness regimen. Each time you miss one you are building momentum in the wrong direction.Every person on the planet, woman or man, is prone to hitting the wall; feeling burned out; hitting the plateau; and then motivation starts to suffer. While much of the cause of those effects can be prevented to a degree, that is not always the case. So many times we just keep working toward our goals, time flies, and before you know it something is wrong. There are times when taking a break from your fitness regimen is recommended, if only for a short time. Try to analyze your recent activities and make some sense out of them. Even a week away from your usual workout can often give you the answers that you were seeking. Sports psychologists understand the issue women have with fitness motivation because of their varying needs. This doesn't mean that men are better; there are simply differences between the sexes. So our approaches to maintaining a positive and healthy state of mind have to take such differences into consideration. Researching what other women do to maintain their focus and motivation may be helpful for when you run into motivation issues.
