Children are the treasure to the parents. They are everything the parents have in life. They bring out happiness and anger to the parents. They are more than just fortune to the parents. Teaching children to protect themselves when they are young is a good way to avoid them in danger. Protecting children from harmful strangers is a great responsibility. You can not follow the children everywhere; you should teach them how to protect themselves. Every parent has different ideas of the dangers that their children will meet everyday. No matter what dangers are, it is better to prepare your children early. Children trust other peoples naturally and easily, especially the adults. Parents may find it is difficult to explain to children how to be vigilance for these people. Here are some basic suggestions about how to help your children to protect themselves. 1. Teach the name of parents and kinsfolk and briefly information of your home. Children are too little to remember a lot. Teach them to remember parents’ and kinsfolk names and their own name. If possible, teach them remember the home address and telephone, or write down this information in a memo and put the memo in their pocket and remind them a few times a day. 2. Teach them the emergency and personal numbers. Teach them the emergency number in your area. Write them down and teach children to remember them. Also teach them some personal numbers they can call during emergency. 3. Tell children about abduction. Tell children in a gentle way and tell them what to do when facing such danger. But grasp the sense of propriety, don’t frighten them. 4. Ask policemen or security guard for help. Tell the children, if they have some danger, scream, shout or run to the policeman or security guard to help him. Be quiet will make them in a dangerous situation. 5. Pay close attention to their whereabouts . Remind your children to notify you their whereabouts. Even if, they are playing in the garden, they ought to inform you first. This will itself become a habit to your children. Tell them not to give out the address of their home, home telephone number or their own names. 6. Train children to own self-protective consciousness and skills. In daily life, talk with them about how to protect themselves and be sure they understand your words and concepts. Never ignore the security of your children, train and tell them some basic skills and information they should know. Anyway, the security of children, which is the most important thing you should pay close attention to, are not only the parents’ obligations but also their responsibilities. The children are more important than any other wealth you have. So, try you best to protect them safe .
