Everything is bigger is in Texas, including the risk on the road. Texas is the second most populated state, though its cell phone driving laws are falling behind. There a no state wide cell phone or text messaging laws, just some very particular restrictions. These restrictions include;
-No cell phone use for bus drivers carrying children under the age of 17
-No cell phone use in designated school zones
-No cell phone use for new drivers within the first six months of receiving their license
-No cell phone use for teenagers under the age of 17
-Exceptions are in place for emergency use
Texas cell phone laws are really just restrictions. It is unlikely that you would actually receive a fine for breaking any of these rules. The lack of state wide laws has caused cities to make their own. Many cities across the state have enacted a ‘no texting and driving’ rule. The rules are popping up across the state and the consequences for breaking them can be severe. In some cities the fine for texting and driving can be up to five hundred dollars. The cities that have introduced these laws are noticing a dramatic reduction in distracted driving accidents, and increased revenue from fine collection.
The problem is that these city wide laws are no longer valid as soon as a driver leaves the city limits. Not only that, but drivers from other cities are often not aware of the no texting and driving rules. Many distracted drivers are still on the road. Do you part and stop cell phone driving , let's make the road a safer place.
