One of the biggest things you should decide on in business card printing is the design profile. The design profile is a collection of different factors that communicates a certain business image and some other details.

Most business card templates (the good ones) will more or less decide the profile for you. However, if you want a truly original and distinctive design, you should try to do it yourself and create the design profile that you want.

As a guide for you, we are going to give you a list of the five major factors of a design profile. By deciding carefully in these design factors, you should create the proper profile and the personal business image that you want.

1. The dominant color – The first major factor in a design profile is the dominant color. It might sound odd, but the dominant color will in fact shape the whole profile that you are trying to communicate. For example, a plain white business card will make it look common and traditional while a black business card is very unusual and mysterious.

Most professionals today use some creative color as their backgrounds that match the theme of their business. For example, energetic industries in advertising and marketing use bright and vibrant colors. Serious industries on the other hand like the academe prefer more subtle and cool colors to make things look respectable. So the dominant or background color choice is no joke in business card printing. Choose precisely what you want to create the design profile that you need.

2. The choice of font – The font style of course also is an integral part of a design. A font is a major factor in the overall theme. Creative fonts will make for a creative profile that is more related to energetic markets, while fonts that are more formal of course project the image of a more corporate environment. Moreover, some fonts are actually trademarks of some businesses, so this adds to a more specific corporate profile that your business cards can exploit. So never take your font choice for granted. Choose it wisely.

3. The choice of content – The choice of what to put into your color business cards is of course another factor in your profile. If you are just putting out classic contact information content, then yours is a traditional type of card. Add some marketing elements into your content (a small advertisement perhaps?) and it becomes a sales type. If you insert some more personal achievements in your content however, then it becomes career profile card for personal image building.

Therefore, your decisions on content will affect the whole nature and profile of your business card. You have to decide on this early on since this is a big factor in your business card design profile.

4. The materials used – Finally, the materials used also has a direct influence on a business card’s design profile. Using cheap materials for printing, will of course lead to the impression that your business and you are slightly cheap. Use very expensive materials and your profile might look extravagant. If you choose the best and proper materials though, you should be able to improve the look of your designs and project the image that you want. So pay attention to your choices in business card printing.

These are the big factors in a business card design profile. Focus on these elements and decide on them carefully.
