Loss of memory due to excessive  alcohol  consumption is called a "Blackout." The truth of the matter is, brain function can be disrupted due to high blood alcohol concentration. When alcohol toxicity begins the hippocampus losses its ability to form new memories. It is not that people forget, they lose their ability to store memories. Alcohol withdrawal is the next great danger. Symptoms of alcohol withdrawal can mean trembling hands, nausea, vomiting, seizure and stroke. The greatest danger of blackout drinking is that it signals a potential life threatening situation. Alcohol toxicity and associated blackouts are statistical redflags. Meaning that the likelihood of developing alcoholism is much higher for blackout drinkers. In fact, some neurologists believe it is already too late, alcoholism has already set-in to the mind and there is no turning back. So if you are experiencing blackout drinking it doesn't mean you have to be more careful where you park your car but rather you should be more careful about drinking alcohol in any amount at all.
