The Great Debate between Kindle WiFi vs 3G

Ever since the launch of the third generation of Kindles, also known as Kindle 3, there has been a great debate. The focus of the debate has been about the two different versions of the Kindle 3 – Kindle WiFi vs 3G.

For those who don’t know, the Kindle is an eReader that is produced by Amazon.com. it uses an unique E Ink technology screen which is intended to make reading on the device as much like reading an actual printed book as possible.

Both the Kindle WiFi and the Kindle 3G are capable of storing up to 3500 eBooks in its 4 gigabyte memory. This is enough books to keep even the most avid bookworm busy for months. Kindle eBooks are primarily available from the Amazon.com website which sells thousands of books in many different subjects and genres and by a host of different authors.

As seen thus far, both versions are extremely alike. However, the main difference between them is at the crux of the matter. This difference is the methods that each use to connect to the internet. This is an important function of the Kindle, as by connecting to the internet from your device, you are thus able to purchase new books from the Amazon website at any time.

The Kindle WiFi can only use a wireless network connection to connect to the internet. If you have regular access to such a connection at home or at work then this is probably the device for you. It is important that you use a secured network, somewhere that you trust, as buying books from the Kindle store is a financial transaction, and your details can be tracked on an unsecured connection.

The Kindle 3G on the other hand also uses a wireless network to connect to the internet, but it has a second weapon in its arsenal. It is also capable of accessing the internet using the cellular 3G internet connection at absolutely no monthly cost. If you do not have access to a secure wireless network connection, this is the device for you. You may also wish to choose this device if you go travelling a lot and enjoy reading while you travel as many countries now have a 3G network in place.

The secondary difference between the two devices is the price. The Kindle 3G is about 50 American dollars more expensive than the WiFi model is.
