According to Wikipedia, the “ Internet Economy refers to conducting business through markets whose infrastructure is based on the Internet and World-Wide Web.”   With this new way of conducting business, businesses can no longer depend on traditional marketing and advertising methods and can’t afford to not use the Internet to survive.   But the Internet demands a different approach when it comes to marketing and communicating.   The Internet started in the 1960s as a military funded project to build a robust computer network to ensure communications in denied environments.   It has since evolved into an economic, social, and communication tool with global reach. The Internet is changing life so quickly that not participating on the Internet is a guarantee to be left behind. Yet, the Internet is still growing. Only about 25% of the world’s population uses the Internet. Unprecedented growth in inevitable.   The Internet has empowered individuals with unparalleled ways to engage and communicate with others. We have greater access to information and the ability to express ourselves. If you’re a business or online business owner, you have a once-in-a-lifetime (and maybe once-in-a-century) opportunity to embrace the potential of the Internet in a manner similar to Rockefeller and Carnegie.   Why? Because our economy is fundamentally changing.   Rockefeller and Carnegie made their fortunes when the economy was breaking down and rebuilding. Our country was transitioning from an agriculture based economy to one based on the industrial revolution. This shift created new wealth and some of the wealthiest people known.   We are again experiencing an economic breakdown and rebuilding as we shift from the industrial age to the information age, an age with the Internet as its foundation. And this shift is bringing another transfer of wealth. Mastering the new economy by embracing the new way of conducting business the Internet demands gives more people the opportunity to create unprecedented wealth. The key skill to accessing the potential wealth is internet marketing.   Internet marketing is essentially brand new. It’s still evolving and doesn’t have the proof of traditional marketing behind it and hasn’t been “corporated” yet. This is the biggest reason why now is the time to take advantage of the opportunity.   Once Internet marketing becomes main stream, the rewards won’t be a great. The Internet won’t be high stakes, high rewards game it is now.   Mastering internet marketing will take hard work, but anything worth doing is worth going through the learning curve. The good news is that you don’t have to learn every possible internet marketing method there is. New marketing methods are being created every day, so it’s impossible to keep up with all of them. Instead focus on one to three methods and master them. Study them, implement them, and analyze your results so you can improve and become proficient and confident in them. Then add another method to your repertoire.   There will always be opportunities, but then there are huge opportunities. The Internet economy is one of those huge opportunities.
