You’ve booked the ideal venue, been fitted for the wedding dress of your dreams and bought the rings…but what about the lingerie? Looking for the perfect set of underwear for your special day can seem like a daunting task, but worry not, here are some expert tips for looking for the best lingerie to make you look and feel amazing on your big day.
Bridal lingerie plays a crucial role in how your dream dress will feel and look. The correct lingerie will work with the dress and give you the necessary support, making your overall look smooth, seamless and sensational.
The first thing to consider is the style of your dress - is it corseted and boned? Or slinky and bias cut? A slinky wedding dress will require a bit more thought in terms of your undergarments. A smooth, seamless bra and knickers will be needed to avoid unsightly bumps and lumps which can be a problem with heavily embellished items.
A strapless dress will of course, require a strapless bra, there are countless choices but bear in mind some dresses may, conveniently, have built in support. In which case, you’ll need to concentrate on finding the perfect pair of knickers. If VPL is an issue, go for something seamless, Aubade’s Pulp Seduction Range is perfectly smooth but with a touch of luxury with a French lace underlay. Ultimately, comfort is key, so if you are accustomed to wearing briefs or French knickers, stay away from thongs as you’ll be wearing it for the whole day of festivities!
Multi-way bras are fabulously versatile, often offering a changeable clear back – especially useful for a backless gown - and straps which alter for a halter style, worn across for a one shoulder or removed completely. The options are endless!
Basques are beautiful and practically, and will offer you great support throughout your special day, ensuring everything is held perfectly in place. Aubade, Marie Jo and Simone Perele offer some gorgeous styles. For a bigger bust, Empreinte is the perfect solution.
If it is some “pull you in, push you up” underwear you’re looking for, try some more functional shape wear…hundreds of women swear by
Spanx for smoothing the silhouette and although it is not the most attractive of selections; it will ensure you are confident and at ease, whilst you are guaranteed to feel extremely comfortable. So there’ll be no need to worry about bulges and bloating after many canapés and celebratory glasses of champagne! Most importantly, you can always slip into something a sexier later in the day…
After the wedding, comes the honeymoon and the perfect excuse to indulge in some stunning lingerie beauties for the boudoir. Silky slips, suspenders, bustiers…your honeymoon lingerie wardrobe can consist of whatever you wish it to; but remember your honeymoon is not limited to just one night. Colour is good place to start however, with white as the basis to compliment the wedding theme. Pearl, feathers and lace adorned pieces are deemed traditional honeymoon lingerie attire – but it really is a personal choice.
Mimi Holliday and Fleur of England showcase some gorgeously feminine pieces, and Sally Jones offer an entire range dedicated to honeymoon lingerie.
Last of all, remember, it’s your wedding day, and if you want to look and feel amazing, lingerie is the best place to start!
