The Man In The Wheelchair, The Cross, And Christmas

I'd like to share with you something that has changed my life forever, and has opened my eyes to even more Truth. On Saturday, I blogged about seeing the movie The Cross .I related to you the events that caused me to go see the movie in the first place. The movie itself is life-changing, but for me, the people that God placed in my path to point me to the movie were equally life-changing. I had been experiencing feelings and thoughts of being useless, that nobody cared about me, that I wasn't important, and that my life was meaningless. I was about as far down as you can get. Poor me, Poor me, poor poor pitiful me. The man in the wheelchair started to turn things around for me. Just as sure as he turned his wheelchair around to point to the poster for the movie, he helped to turn my outlook around. You see, the man in the wheelchair couldn't even talk . He couldn't communicate in normal English. Not only was he physically disabled and immobilized, but he was verbally immobilized as well. Just as soon as he pointed toward the poster for the movie The Cross , the fog gradually started to lift. I could almost feel a lifetime of pain this man had gone through. When you are handicapped in this way,not only can you not do things for yourself, but you cannot do things for others as well. I imagine that he was probably a Christian. I also imagine that he probably had a better relationship with God than most of us do. You see, when you're isolated, and have no one on earth to communicate with, when you are lonely, that is when you really get in touch with God. That is where your comfort lies. I can imagine the times that he was rejected in all kinds of things because of his handicaps. I can feel the pain he must have felt, wanting so much to be a part of life, a part of doing something worthwhile, but not being able to participate in the things other people did. I can imagine how many times he wished he was just "normal"like everyone else. If anyone had a right to question the very existence of God, this man did. But No ,that is not what I saw. I saw a man with hardly any communication abilities trying to tell me about the movie The Cross. I saw him trying so hard, that when his verbal attempt failed, he did the only thing he knew to do. He wheeled to the front of the building where he knew a poster was hanging. He wheeled to that poster, and used his body to point out the poster. God spoke to my heart and said, "Do you realize how important that man is to Me? Other people may not see him as anything, but to Me he is everything." It's almost Christmas. People are busy buying gifts and decorating and traveling. Waiting for Santa Claus. Well, Santa Claus wasn't born in a manger, and the Easter Bunny didn't rise from the dead. Today I'm joining in with the small but vocal voice in the world that's saying,"Hey, have we forgotten what Christmas is all about?" If Jesus were walking the earth today, how pleased would He be with the way we celebrate His birth? Rick's World
