From noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, we will once again bring together a combination of dynamic speakers, family entertainment and an all-star Gospel concert. The event is open to everyone. Admission and parking are free.
The NEW YORK CALL was conceived in 2004 by world-renown Gospel singer Donnie McClurkin, the senior pastor of Perfecting Faith Church in Freeport, N.Y., to bring together churches and ministries in the tri-state area for the purpose of promoting unity and cohesion within the Christian community.
Beginning at noon Saturday, guests will have the chance to visit several pavilions set up on the park grounds, where they can pick up free information on health and wellness, education, careers, kids and families. Free health screenings for blood pressure, glucose and colon health also will be provided, with a primary focus on heart and stroke information provided by the American Heart Association. In addition, we'll have interactive games, sports and activities for the entire family, as well as free samples and giveaways.
Pastor McClurkin will be one of several powerful speakers to address the thousands of people expected to flock to Eisenhower Park for this year’s event. Others include Bishop Carlton Brown, senior pastor of Bethel Gospel Assembly, a 1,200-member congregation in Harlem and the launching pad for many new ministries and churches in the United States and South Africa. Bishop Brown has taken the message of the Good News of Jesus Christ to conferences and crusades in the United States and to parts of Africa, the Caribbean, Cuba, India, Latin America and Russia. He also can be heard Sundays at 7 a.m. on New York's Gospel radio station WLIB (1190 AM). Also joining us will be Pastor Roberto Seda, the Senior Pastor of Christian Tabernacle Pentecostal Church, inc. in Brooklyn, New York, who views himself as an old school style Bible based preacher.
Events on the main-stage will kick off at 3 p.m. One of the highlights is a Gospel concert, which we’re excited to say will include the newly formed New York Call Multicultural Choir, comprised of an ethnically diverse body of Christians from different churches across the tri-state area. In addition, several national recording artists are scheduled to appear. They include Melinda Watts and Sheri Jones-Moffett. Watts is the Season 3 winner of Gospel Music Channel’s popular reality talent search series, Gospel Dream. Her debut album, "People Get Ready," is scheduled to be released this summer. Jones-Moffett, best known as a featured vocalist with the Tri-City Singers and one-half of the celebrated duo Ted & Sheri, has a smash single, "Get Renewed," on iTunes, which will be one of the tracks on her first solo album, "Renewed," set for release in August.
The NEW YORK CALL is sponsored in part by American Heart Association and Americhoice. Media partners are The Word Network, WLIB (1190 AM) and WBLS (107.5 FM). For updates and more information, go to www.nycall.org.
