As the saying goes, mother is the greatest one in the world. Do you know when the Mother’s Day is? Are you clear the history of Mother’s Day? The following are some materials related to the Mother’s Day.

The second Sunday in May is honored as Mother's Day. Celebrations are held all over the world to celebrate the great maternal love.

You may do not know that Mother's Day proposal originated a Sunday school in Catherine Burton County, West Virginia State, in America.

In 1876, the U.S. was still mourning the dead in Civil War. Anna Jarvis gave lectures on the Memorial Day of the United States in a Chapel. When she spoke of the stories of the heroes who scarified their lives in battle, she preached: “I hope someone at some place will create a Mother's Day to commemorate and praise the mothers of the United States and the mothers of the world one day.”

Mrs. Chavez had served for her church for over 25 years. She died when she was 72 years old. And her 41-Year-old daughter, Anna, determined to create a Mother's Day to realize the wish of her mother prayed years ago.

Anna wrote to many prestigious people, asking them to support the establishment of Mother's Day so as to promote filial piety. She received poor responses at first, but she was not discouraged and continued to appeal to all parties.

Finally, on May 12, 1907, Andrea Methodist Church held a prayer ceremony for the mothers on the invitation of Anna. This ceremony was held in Philadelphia after two years and received an enthusiastic response. At last, she got the support from the governor of Victoria and then the governor announced the establishment of Mother's Day in the state in 1910.

Gradually, several states in America, Canada, Mexico and other countries given recognition on Mother's Day and held the ceremonies to celebrate it.

In 1914, President Wilson proposed the Congress to pass the proposal which honored the Mother's Day as a holiday throughout the United States and urged people to express love to our beloved mothers openly. Then, other countries follow suit. It became International Mother's Day.

Anna originally proposed the day of her mother's death--May 10, as the date of Mother's Day, but in order to facilitate people to enjoy with family, the second Sunday in May is selected as Mother's Day.
