Facing a school interview is not a joke. Children mostly interact only with their parents. When they speak to strangers, most of the times they get nervous. Facing an interview by an adult is far more different from children. Adults are used to speaking to strangers but children are not. When it comes to children, it is not only a burden for children to get through the interview but also for the parents.
Children are dependent on their parents. In such cases most children expect their parents to help them when they face school interviews, especially when they face it for the first time in their lives. Though, it is not possible for anybody to help somebody else at the time of interview, it is possible for parents to guide their children on how to face interviews.
Children are motivated by their parents the most. Their parents are their best teachers. This makes them imitate their parents all the time. Even while speaking they tend to catch the exact tone that their parents use. Even they use the words that are often been used by their parents. For many children, their role models are their parents only.
The first thing that the parents should remember is to make their children feel relaxed a day before their interview because if they get nervous then it is obvious that they will start fumbling at the interview. Children cannot be blamed later if they do not get through the interview. It is therefore the responsibility of the parents to prepare their children for the interview.
Parents should buy their children some of the books which also work as model question papers. Many schools tend to share these question papers with prospective parents or you could download a few questions from the Internet for their children and make them practice those at least a fortnight before the commencement of the interview. Parents also should start teaching their children right from an early age.
A child’s interview results depends on the parents how well the parents have prepared their child for the interview. They should also encourage their child and make the child feel that the interview is not a war and thus is easy to get through it. They should also ensure that the atmosphere of the home is kept peaceful so that the child can pay attention while preparing the interview.
