Below are some tips to acquiring new business and on how to keep up to date with your clients needs using the most popular online social media outlets.

Facebook - People share their thoughts on services they have had or services they are needing. With facebook you can search for potential clients, but you can also offer current clients a way to stay up to date with services, events and promotions you are offering. By inviting clients to your facebook account you also provide a way for your clients to praise your services...increasing your credibility with potential clients.

Twitter - A great way to find strong leads. Using the Twitter Search for your area of expertise may bring up hundreds of tweets about that service. Search "web development" and hundreds of tweets pop up. How many of these are potential leads?

Be a part of the conversation. Find the leads and send a friendly tweet to potential clients about your services. Don't spam or hit potential clients with a full pitch, just offer your service with a link to your site. Also be sure your Twitter profile outlines your expertise with links back to your site, portfolio or other information about your services.

Craigslist - Not as involved as the for mentioned sites but is a great way to find people looking for your particular skill set. You can use Craigslists' search feature to look for "gigs" in your city area that aim towards your expertise.
