We all have a certain fascination with gadgets and gizmos. Many of these serve no real purpose other than to spark a conversation or make life more interesting. Some gadgets are just a bit more "geeky" than others. With that in mind, let's take a look at the top ten geeky gadgets and gizmos one might want.
Today, it is possible to purchase a pair of VR glasses that function as a large screen television from the viewpoint of the wearer. To the rest of the world, this person is going to look more than a little like Lt. La Forge from Star Trek TNG. Some are compatible with the iphone or ipad devices.
Sometimes we want to drop a bomb on our coworkers. Now, one can attach a missile launcher to his/her computer and shoot missiles into the next cubicle with laser guided accuracy. Device requires a USB port and a Windows based computer.
Some geeks dream of being a secret agent. For these, one can buy an ID card holder with a pinhole camera built in. The device is really a miniaturized video recorder about the same size as a credit card. If nothing else, it can be used to scope out targets for the missile launcher.
One gadget that has not actually made it to market, but will be in high demand when it does is a toaster with delusions of being a printer. The bread is loaded from the top and fed through one slice at a time coming out toasted. Of course, if this device jams as often as a real printer...
One gizmo that makes a great gift for a geeky friend is a beer mug that is marked with where the head should begin on a good mug of beer. Of course, this is written in computer code.
Most of us, geeks included, love to hook up with others on social networking sites. Isaac Daniel Compass has created a pair of blue tooth enabled shoes with GPS tracking built in. With these shoes, one can set up to 5 different links using his cell phone, then activate the GPS with the push of a button on the shoes. The friends listed on the phone will be able to track his/her every move.
No geek's life would be complete without some Star Wars memorabilia. Now, there is a Force Trainer that, according to the manufacturer, uses the brainwaves to control a jet of air that lifts a ball. The power of the person's brain controls the power of the air jet. There is also vocal guidance from Master Yoda to help one along.
Three more gizmos round out the top ten. These are a set of computer coded wedding rings, a Linux or Windows CE based computer one can wear on his wrist, and a set of straps that allow one to place his/her laptop and pretend that it is a portable DVD player built into the car.
