Since 2000, ourcountry has been through so much change that the America of a decade ago is nearlyunrecognizable. I read an article the other day about how much camera, cellphone, and computer technology has changed this decade. Other advances haveswept the Americana people off their feet as well. All these technological advances are a boon toour nation. But there are other issues that have changed for the worse in thelast 10 years.   New horrors in the world ofdisease have wrecked havoc in our nation. From mad cow disease crashing beefmarkets, to avian flu prompting mass bird culls, agricultural markets have takesome hard hits in the 00's. While bird flu has been a known killer and threatfor years, H1N1, or swine flu has also his us especially hard in the Americas .These new, deadly diseases are costing lives and billions of dollars.   Natural disasters and climatechange have been on the forefront of many minds this decade as well. Fromsunamis to huge earthquakes to toronadoes and hurricanes, it's plain to seesomething isn't right. Millions upon millions have been displaced by thesecatastrophic events.   To add to these horrific events, America isfighting two wars, terrorist attacks, economic recession and civil unrestwithin our borders. We've put up walls to keep people out, strengthened racistideals, and separated our political parties to the point where we have to beone extreme or another to fit in. it seems that our world is taking a few stepsbackwards in areas of progress we were behind on to begin with.   On January 20, 2009, Barak Obamatried to urge the people to come together to solve our nations most difficultproblems. He gave us a call to action. Blanket America formed its charity inresponse to that call to action. They have formed a buy one; give one charityto help fight poverty in our nation.   While it is a drop in the bucketwhen compared to our problems, it is making a big difference in the lives of thepoor. Blanket America doeshave a domestic initiative, but they are extending a helping hand to help thosein need in Haiti by donating 80,000 sheets.
