Liposuction refers to the removal of excess fat from the body using some form of suction. This is a medical procedure performed by a cosmetic surgeon and involves sedation or anesthesia. A thin tube attached to a suction device is inserted under the skin to remove and shape the fat. After the procedure the incisions are closed with stitches.
Today, thanks to evolving technology, there are newer and more effective methods of liposuction that score over the traditional one. The most popular method in New Jersey is “tumescent liposuction” which requires thinner instruments, fewer incisions and only uses local anesthesia, keeping the patient alert. It also means quicker recovery from the treatment, so that the patient can return to normal routine within a few days.

What to expect in tumescent liposuction, New Jersey

Developed by Dr. Jeffrey A. Klein, the tumescent liposuction technique is performed by injecting diluted local anesthetic in the area to be suctioned. The injection contains large volumes of salt water, dilute local anesthetic and adrenaline in specific quantities. This makes the area swell, becoming “tumescent”, separating the layer of fat from the underlying organs, providing better access to the surgeon who can then perform the liposuction safely. New Jersey Tumescent liposuction is also referred to as the super wet or wet technique.

Since it involves local anesthesia, the procedure eliminates the possibility of surgical blood loss and other complications. It is also less painful and more effective. Since local anesthesia lasts longer, the need for painkillers after surgery is minimized.

Tumescent liposuction vs. traditional liposuction

Based on your body’s needs and lifestyle, you can determine the liposuction technique that is suitable.

Anesthesia:

The biggest risk with traditional liposuction is the general anesthesia that is likely to cause complications in an unconscious patient. This is always a concern for healthcare professionals. Tumescent liposuction uses local anesthesia to numb the area to be treated, keeping the patient alert and making it a less risky procedure and usually costs less than traditional liposuction.

Pain and bleeding:

With traditional liposuction, the patient needs stitches to close the incisions and long term painkillers. The patient also experiences significant blood loss. With tumescent liposuction pain and bleeding are minimal and stitches or painkillers are not usually required.

Recovery:

With tumescent liposuction, the swelling and bruising from the procedure disappear within days, enabling the person to return to work within 2-3 days. The final results from the treatment are visible in one to three months. With traditional liposuction, it can take several weeks to recover.
During tumescent liposuction in New Jersey, the patient stays awake and alert. Small incisions eliminate the possibility of infections promoting rapid recovery. This method is the safest way to get rid of unwanted fat so that you can look good and feel great
