They say that the eyes are the windows to the soul. Even without words or gestures, simply looking at a person’s eyes is a trip towards his or her deeper self, the part which is oftentimes suppressed and masked. The eyes reveal a person or an experience so much that sometimes we try to look away.

As much as we would like to connect with people through the eyes and always see the world in a clearer perspective, we are hindered by common problems that make looking and seeing much of a burden. These include vision problems such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. We have been solving these problems by wearing prescription glasses or contact lenses.

However, there is a better solution for people suffering from vision problems. Lasik surgery, also known as “laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis”, is a type of eye surgery that permanently changes the cornea’s shape, allowing images to be focused on the retina. There are a number of trusted surgeons out there for you to choose from.

Also, there are different kinds of lasik surgery. For instance, a Houston lasik surgeon can either perform an all-laser lasik or a traditional lasik. A traditional lasik procedure utilizes an instrument called a microkeratome to cut a thin, hinged flap in the cornea. In 1999, another method to create the flap was introduced, using a laser instead of a blade.

Both have its advantages and downsides. Traditional lasik is faster to conduct and lasts for about three seconds, and is more comfortable. On the other hand, a lasik procedure using laser has lesser risk in creating flap complications. Fortunately, a Houston lasik surgeon as well as other surgeons counsel their patients prior to an operation, helping them decide which type of lasik surgery to undergo.

There are factors to consider in finding a good Houston lasik surgeon or specialist. These include licensing, board certification, a membership in a trusted and ethical group of surgeons, advertisements, and referrals. An unsuccessful eye procedure can take its toll on the way you live, so it is important to choose a quality lasik surgeon that will enhance your vision through proper procedures. After all, the eyes are the windows to the soul, so treating it the best way possible will be a boost to your soul as well.
