If you have a vacuum cleaner, you may want to look into accessories to really make your cleaning experience as easy as possible. No one likes cleaning, but if it is easier to do, it is easier to handle the chore. The better your accessories are for your vacuum, the quicker and easier you can get done and do something a bit more fulfilling in your life! Knowing what accessories you need and making sure they are all in working order can be the difference between a quick, efficient cleaning and an angry fight with your vacuum.

Filters
Depending on if you have an upright vacuum or a handheld, you may need different accessories. Though the best way to find out what you need is to look in your owner’s manual, most vacuums, both upright and handheld, have filters. Some have only bags, but the bag works as the filter itself if there are no other filters in the unit. Filters are important because they take the dirt, air and dust that are pulled into the vacuum and filter them, removing all of the impurities before releasing the air back into the room. It is always important to keep your filters clean because it can affect the way your vacuum is performing. If your vacuum is acting sluggish, your filter should be the first thing you check.

Some filters are removable, especially in handheld vacuums. You can make your small filters last longer by washing them with soap and water. Make sure you are letting them dry completely before putting them back into the vacuum.

You may find regular filters and HEPA Filters on the market. HEPA filters are a bit better and remove more particles in the air than regular filters. By law in the US, HEPA filters must remove 99.97% of all particles over 3 microns in the air. That’s a lot of material! HEPA filters are more expensive and you probably don’t need one unless you have allergies or if you have a particular need for filtered air from your vacuum. Many people with pets that lose a lot of hair love the HEPA filters too!

Belts
Belts are usually the other “problem child” when it comes to vacuums. The belt allows the roller on certain vacuums to help pick up dirt, dust and debris. If your belt is not in good condition your vacuum will not work.

Belts can twist and break easily. They do not last for the life of the vacuum, so expect to buy several throughout the life of your vacuum cleaner. Make sure your vacuum really needs a belt before buying one. Most uprights need one as they have rollers to help bring debris in, but many hand held models do not have a roller, so they will not need a belt. Usually you can tell if your belt is going bad by the strong smell of rubber in the air when you vacuum! Don’t take a chance on letting your belt break. They are cheap and small, so they are easy to keep around at home. They usually come in packs of two or three so you will always have one on hand. Different brands of vacuum cleaners have different size bands, so make sure you compare and read the label before buying.

If you are in the market for a new vacuum cleaner, try the Dirt Devil Kone. It is small, stylish and powerful. It comes in 6 different colors so it will match any décor and the Dirt Devil Kone filter is strong and durable. For more information, check out the website http://www.dirtdevilkone.com/
