TheChilterns begin in Oxfordshire in the Thames Valley and stretch north-eastthrough Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire to Hitchin in Hertfordshire. Within the quite valleys of theChilterns you will find pretty buildings from flint cottages, quaint pubs,pretty b&b's, guest houses and National Trust properties. The Chilterns are crossed byprehistoric byways which include the oldest road "The Ridgeway" andthe Iron Age Hill Forts.  They comprise of chalk hills covered withbeautiful beech woods, wild flowers, orchids and a variety of wildlifeincluding the famous red kites. The Chiltern Way is very popularwith walkers, cyclists and horse riders who can travel miles of beautifulcountryside. On your visit to the Chilterns you will have plenty of places to visitincluding the Dunstable Downs in Bedfordshire Wendover Woods inBuckinghamshire, Warburg Wildlife Reserve in Oxfordshire and the Grand UnionCanal which starts in London and runs through to the Chilterns via Berkhamstedand Tring. There are other activities for those that enjoy the great outdoors includingbird watching, golf, fishing, mountain biking, bird watching, ballooning andgliding. The Chilterns are easily accessible from the larger towns of London, MiltonKeynes, Oxford and Reading with Heathrow and Luton airports less than an hours drive away. Chiltern Railways is the mainprovider for the area and the M40, M25 and M1 are close by. Villages and towns within reach of the Chilterns include Princes Risborough,Henley, Wendover and Old Amersham where you will find a variety of shops forretail therapy and many good eating establishments from country pubs to qualityrestaurants. The Chilterns are ideal for those on business, pleasure, a short break or arelaxing holiday.
