Every citizen has the obligation to save water. Maybe we can do nothing with the water pollution in various industries. However, we can do our part in water saving in home. The following tips may provide you with a well guidance. 1. Check for home for leaks, hidden water leaks can be wasting water without you even being aware of it. A good way to check for leaks is, if your property is metered, then read your water meter and do not use any water for a couple of hours and go back to check that the meter reads exactly the same. If it does not, there is a leak. 2. Turn off tap while cleaning your teeth, shaving or washing your face. You can waste up to 9 litres a minute by just letting the water pour down the sink. 3. Take shorter showers. Replace you showerhead with an ultra-low-flowversion. Some units are available that allow you to cut off the flowwithout adjusting the water temperature knobs. 4. Operate automatic dishwashers and clothes washers only when they arefully loaded or properly set the water level for the size of load youare using. 5. Fix any dripping tap, you can waste 90 litres a week which will cost a lot more than what might just be the price of a new washer. 6. Think before throwing used water down the drain. For example, water in a pan after cooking could be reusedfor watering plants around the house when cooled down, or in the garden. 7. Install water softening systems only when necessary. Save water andsalt by running the minimum amount of regenerations necessary tomaintain water softness. Turn softeners off while on vacation. 8. Avoid flushing the toilet unnecessarily. Dispose of tissues, insectsand other such waste in the trash rather than the toilet. 9. Consider installing an instant water heater on your kitchen sink so youdon't have to let the water run while it heats up. This will reduceheating costs for your household. 10. When adjusting water temperatures, instead of turning water flow up,try turning it down. If the water is too hot or cold, turn the offenderdown rather than increasing water flow to balance the temperatures.
