Signature fashion accessory for women has always been the necklace – which is a piece of adornment worn around the neck. From ancient times necklaces have been made out of stones, corals, wood, bones, shells, leather, animal claws and teeth. With passage of time craftsmen have made refinements in jewelry creation. Nowadays halsketten (necklaces) are crafted out of semi precious and precious stones and metals like gold, silver, diamond, rubies, turquoise, pearls, and various other unique elements.

Necklaces add remarkable charm and grace to your personality. Before your purchase a necklace, think about the occasion and costume that you would choose to wear. It could also depend on your costume color and neckline. Off late, perlenketten (pearls necklaces) have become a fashion statement. Pearls are gifted gems from Mother Nature herself, and they look delicate, rich and have an alluring quality. However, the finest natural pearls are mostly rare to find. Humans have thus harvested and cultured pearls in freshwater and seas to satiate the rising demand. Pearls usually come in shapes of round, semi-round, button, drop, pear, oval, baroque, and circled. Pearl necklaces are mostly designed from round, semi-round and button pearls. Tear drop pearls are often used as pendants in a necklace. Irregular shaped baroque pearls are used in the form of pendants with circled pearls forming the body of the necklace.

One interesting feature in pearl necklaces is that they are named by how low they hang from the neck when worn. A collar usually made up of multiple pearl strands, measures 10 to 13 inches and rests against the throat without hanging down; Pearl chokers that huddle at the base of the neck measure about 14 to 16 inches. Princess length, usually of a single strand, measures 17 to 19 inches and rests just below the collarbone. A matinee length falls above the breasts and measures 20 to 24 inches. An opera length, measures 28 to 35 inches and drops till the breastbone or sternum of the wearer. Any length that is greater than an opera is called pearl rope and measures more than 45 inches. Pearls can be combined with diamonds, rubies, sapphire, amethyst, gold and silver in a necklace to make it look eye-catching. Pearls come in an array of colors – like white, peach, cream, pink, blue, lavender, silver and black.
Pick elegant pearl necklaces to give an edge to your fashion sense. Remember pearls are for all seasons.
