is a fine art. People often get over excited by the potential of the medium and produce flashy but ineffective banners. That’s not the way to go folks! Our mission is to make the Internet a better place so with that in mind let’s take a look at the five keys to web banner design success:
1. First things first: file size. Yeah it’s boring but you really need to be aware of the technical aspects of your web banner design. A large file size will mean the banner loads slowly. Web banners have about five seconds to win over potential customers so slow loading means no sale. All this really means is that flash animation is a bad idea.
2. The second thing to consider is brand consistency. You want people to remember your brand so make sure they have repeated contact with your logo, colors, slogan etc. This will make your products more memorable as well as convey a sense of consistency between your promotional materials and your website.
3. Always include a call to action. Sixty years of TV have made people accustomed to passive advertizing. They may not even realize your banner is interactive so show them by including a call to action like ‘Tell me more!’
4. Words, words, words. Words are what will sell your product so concentrate on compelling text. Who is your demographic? What do they want to hear? What if you sell used cars? Well write something like ‘looking to buy a used car?’ Yes it’s that simple.
