Maintenance is a constant task for homeowners. There is always something that needs to be cleaned or repaired and the market is demanding that more maintenance free products be introduced. When replacing your aging windows you will likely want to choose window frames that offer an easy, low maintenance solution, cutting down on time spent cleaning, painting and repairing this part of your home. Which window frames will offer you this benefit?
UPVC Frames Get Top Grades
Affordable and widely available, UPVC window frames offer a no fuss solution to window maintenance. Instead of having to scrape sand and paint these window frames every few years, you can install UPVC frames and forget about them for up to three decades. This style of frame will never need to be repainted and the strength is very stable, offering years of worry free use.
There are disadvantages to this material though and they mainly have to do with the appearance. UPVC comes in very few colour selections – generally just white and tan. This will not look right on a period home that is having a handful of windows and frames replaced. There is really no way to colour the window frames and if you want that easy clean, no maintenance solution you will have to settle for what’s available.
Also, UPVC may discolour slightly over time, yellowing a little. This permanent change is due to the sun exposure and it cannot be avoided when using this product. Not all UPVC will do this and some may do it to such a small degree that you don’t even notice it.
Aluminium and Aluminium-Clad Window Frames Are the Next Best Thing
When colour is an issue, but you still want the low maintenance solution, have a look at aluminium and aluminium-clad window frames. They both offer the smooth finish and weather resistance of aluminium without the colour limitations. In fact, aluminium can be powder coated in almost any colour, depending on the manufacturer.
Choose the tone that matches your current window frames if you are replacing a limited number of windows or choose something that compliments your home for any other circumstance. Aluminium-clad window frames are also more energy efficient than UPVC. You may get up to 50 years of use with the aluminium models, although that depends on the brand and the installation.
Replace your deteriorating window frames with a product that will require less cleaning, leaving you with more time to relax while you’re at home. Either UPVC or aluminium window frames provide a low maintenance option that’s also attractive and highly durable.
When it comes to your cheap double glazed windows, cleaning and maintaining is important which means finding the best double glazing prices available as well
